The latest issue of Famitsu has some information that gives context to the recent Persona 5 gameplay trailer. The main character is a high school sophomore who moves to a large city to live with family friends in their coffee shop. The city is inspired by Tokyo and will feature areas like the Shibuya District. Not much else is known about the story yet, except that the main character faces some kind of major problem that could turn serious in the future if not overcome. The series' penchant for metaphor remains strong; in the trailer the main character is shown in a cell wearing a prison jumper, but this depicts a mental prison, not a physical one.

In a big departure for the series, the mansion themed dungeon seen in the trailer is not randomly generated. Certain dungeons play a major role in the story and fit with the burglary motif. Each dungeon will have some gimmick associated it with it; in the trailer the main character is seen jumping between chandeliers and dashing for cover. However, this does not mean randomly generated dungeons will not also appear in the game.

Famitsu also promised that the Social Link system will appear in some form even though the trailer does not show a Social Link option in the menu. There is speculation that the "Cooperation" option will play this role, but no confirmation. Finally, Famitsu named the main character's first Persona. It's name is Arsene, a reference to the fictional gentleman thief from classical French literature.

Persona 5 comes out on the PlayStation 3 and 4 some time in 2015. If you haven't seen it, check out the trailer below.
