Gold Saucer Opening Soon in Final Fantasy XIV
Oh, and you can dress up like Cloud!
02.06.15 - 12:35 AM

Gosh, Square Enix continues to amaze me with their support for Final Fantasy XIV, and they're adding a great deal more thanks to the 2.51 patch coming at the end February.

First up, players will gain access to the Gold Saucer, which fans will remember as the awesomely gaudy casino in Final Fantasy VII. And, in what seems like a match made in heaven, players can engage in the card battle game Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII. With over 80 cards available at launch and the ability to play against NPCs and other online adventurers, players will most likely find the hours ticking away as they try to outwit and outplay the competition.

Of course, it wouldn't be the Gold Saucer without some Chocobo Racing, and Square Enix is adding a fully fleshed out system complete with experience, ability growth and breeding. What remains to be seen is if thirty hours of proper Chocobo breeding will lead to an uber-skill capable of ruining game balance! Rounding out the Gold Saucer is a collection of mini-games including Monster Toss, The Moogle's Paw, and Cuff-a-Cur amongst other similarly wacky activities. Rewards for taking part in all of these shenanigans include new character costumes like the Setzer outfit (from Final Fantasy VI) pictured below.

As part of the Veteran Reward system, players who have an account with 720 days paid for will receive a Cloud outfit from Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Look pretty sweet to me!

Patch 2.51 is set to go live on February 24th. Stay tuned for more info on Final Fantasy XIV as we get it!
