Pier Solar and the Great Architects HD Review
A faux-Genesis role-playing adventure available on everything except toasters.

I remember riding with my parents to a local used electronics shop, Americana, on the day I got my Sega Genesis. I spent months with my face pressed up against glass display cases, scrutinizing every inch of Phantasy Star IV's box art (why is He-Man in that game, I wondered) and smirking in tandem with Ristar's sassy expression. I would go on to play a number of fantastic games on the system, its distinctive sound chip providing memorable scores to many of my favorite adventures.

Now, some fifteen-plus years later, a Genesis-style throwback RPG has arrived on nearly every contemporary game platform. Pier Solar and the Great Architects HD's audiovisual presentation certainly mimics those classic adventures to great effect, but is the gameplay up to snuff? My review below illuminates all.

Pier Solar and the Great Architects HD is available now for PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PC, and Ouya. (I wasn't kidding.)
