New details on the recently announced Etrian Odyssey and The Mystery Dungeon surfaced from an online preview via Famitsu. A collaboration between Atlus and Spike Chunsoft, Etrian Odyssey and The Mystery Dungeon mashes up the roguelike dungeon crawling of the Mystery Dungeon games and the character customization and setting of the Etrian Odyssey games.

Players essentially get to choose their own parties of custom characters and take them into randomly generated dungeons in order to reach the inner depths. Those characters will then have a wide range of customization options for both appearance and jobs, which in turn will allow them to use different abilities. Players only get to control the main character, while the AI will control all other party members. Following the fashion of the Mystery Dungeon games the players and the enemies will take turns after each action and the overall scale of each area will get larger as players progress.

Etrian Odyssey and The Mystery Dungeon is slated for release in Japan on March 5 for the Nintendo 3DS.
