File this one away under "Please, God, let this happen!"

During a recent concert in Kyoto, Final Fantasy series composer Nobuo Uematsu talked about his desire to make another 2D RPG that would surpass Final Fantasy VI. Uematsu went on to say that he met with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and discussed what could still be done with 2D sprites versus 3D polygonal characters. Apparently, Uematsu went so far as to pitch the idea to Square Enix.

Again, there doesn't seem to be much here just yet, but we know these two close friends have a long history together. The thoughts of them collaborating again is enough to make this old-school Final Fantasy fan hopeful.
