Just kidding. I'm pretty sure it's just to draw attention away from the game's malevolently hideous visuals. But this is a strategy RPG after all, and strategists really only need one thing to be content: a reason to be strategic. That is, a challenge, and a solid battle system in which to overcome the challenge.
