Square Enix broke its silence on Final Fantasy XV at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Not only did we get a new trailer and gameplay demonstration, but there was news of a director change with Tetsuya Nomura stepping aside while Hajima Tabata takes the reigns.
Development seems to be going well, with the game around 50-55% complete. Tabata claims the main theme of the game hasn't changed much since it was initially announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII way back in May of 2006.
Final Fantasy XV will feature an open, seamless world for players to explore. Front and center in the latest gameplay reveal was a car players will be able to drive around the environment. The car, it seems, plays into the main theme of the game. "We're designing it to be a road movie that you can experience as an RPG. You'll feel the romance of going on a trip, and such," Tabata said. Perhaps more interesting to long-time fans of the series is the fact the main playable cast is entirely male, invoking a theme of "brotherhood."
A demo code for Final Fantasy XV will come with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD when it releases in March of 2015. Final Fantasy XV is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
