Nine years after it was originally announced at E3 2006, Final Fantasy Type-0 will finally be reaching the west "within the next year," according to director Hajime Tabata.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is an upgraded version of the PSP original, which was released in Japan in 2011. Aside from the new HD graphics, it will be essentially the same game as the PSP version, although it will feature updated controls and the addition of four difficulty levels.

Type-0 HD will be releasing on PS4 and Xbox One, and Tabata said that Square Enix hopes the push to get it into gamers' hands will help improve the install base of both consoles in Japan in preparation for the release of Final Fantasy XV (which was also announced way back in 2006, as Final Fantasy Versus XIII).

There's no news yet as to when Final Fantasy XV will arrive on consoles, but whatever the schedule, Tabata says that the work on Type-0 HD won't delay its release.
