In a sneaky surprise, Dragon Quest VIII popped up on the App Store and Google Play Store today for $19.99 USD. There weren't any announcements or press releases leading up to the event, but I think I speak for all RPGFans when I say we're glad it made it outside of Japan.
This port of the PlayStation 2 version plays in portrait mode with modified controls, but is otherwise the same Dragon Quest VIII you know and love. Well, with reportedly longer load times.
