Yoshinori Kitase Discusses Possibility of A Final Fantasy VII Remake
Will it happen? Maybe?

Yoshinori Kitase, a producer of the Final Fantasy series and the director of Final Fantasy VII, recently offered his thoughts on a remake of the game in an interview with Eurogamer.

Kitase said that "staff availability and budget" are the two major problems that any team would face in recreating the legendary title. Even if both were to happen, he mentioned he is not sure if he has the motivation to work on such a project. "Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility," he says. "I don’t know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won’t rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen. But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I’ve done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I’m very happy with. It’s a huge thing for me."

So while it may not be an impossibility, it doesn't sound like a remake will be in the works any time soon.

On a related note, he addressed rumours of an HD release of Final Fantasy XII. "It depends on the team who created 12," he says. "If they think it’s a good idea they might opt for it." He does clarify that he has not heard of any such plans yet.
