Square Enix had previously announced that the beta for the PlayStation 4 version of their popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn would begin on February 22nd of next year, which is the same day as the PS4 console's Japanese release. Today, they confirmed that the full launch is set to take place in April.
As you might recall, those who currently play the game on PlayStation 3 can upgrade to the PS4 version for free - and handily enough, the PS3 version is $10 today if you have a PlayStation Plus membership, or $15 for the collector's edition. If you don't have PS+, first of all, why not? Second, the game is still discounted and costs $20 on PSN ($30 for the collector's edition).
At the next live Letter from the Producer, aside from showing more content (such as PvP, treasure hunting and daily beastman quests) from the planned major patch 2.1 titled A Realm Awoken, Yoshi-P will also show footage from the PS4 version of the game. We do know, thanks to last night's PlayStation Awards in Japan (wherein Final Fantasy XIV won a 'special award'), that there will be Vita remote play. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's patch 2.1 is scheduled to go live on December 17th. The next Letter from the Producer will air December 14th at 4 AM Pacific time.
