With its Kickstarter launched, a few details on this title.

With Kickstarter now open to Canadian-based projects, Vancouver-based Eden Industries has their own campaign up, which just went live a couple of days ago. The goal? To fund Citizens of Earth, an JRPG where you can recruit literally anyone. Combining the inspiration of JRPGs such as Suikoden, Pokémon (in terms of recruiting) and Earthbound (in terms of atmosphere) with Western-style cartoon graphics, Citizens of Earth sounds like it will be a light-hearted tale that celebrates 'regular people.'
Citizens of Earth puts the player in the shoes of the Vice President of the World in a modern setting. To battle strange things like sentient coffee plants, you can recruit people from all walks of life - your family, your yoga instructor, bakers, even baristas. These guys will originally show up as NPCs, and all NPCs are recruitable. Furthermore, as you level these people up, the better they are at their day job which benefits both you (as this can present gameplay opportunities, among other things) and the world's overall development.
The development team, who has been working on the title for the past year, is comprised of staff who's worked on titles such as Waveform, Guacamelee!, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, and more. Eden Industries is aiming for a goal of $100,000 CAD (that's in Canadian loonies) by October 20th. Stretch goals, as with many video game Kickstarters these days, include more platforms such as the PlayStation Vita and Wii U, plus more characters, a VR arena, multiplayer, vehicular combat and more.
Citizens of Earth is to release next June. You can try an early PC demo here, although the developer admits it's a little rough.
