Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Expansion Announced
Wisdom turns to death.
08.22.13 - 1:27 AM

At Gamescom this week, Blizzard announced the first expansion to Diablo III, which has been out on PC ever since May of last year. Titled Reaper of Souls, this expansion deals with a new threat in the already torn-apart Sanctuary even after Diablo's defeat: Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom, who was last seen before the ending events of Diablo II. When we encounter him again in Reaper of Souls, he will have become the Angel of Death, and wields control of the Black Soulstone, which in turn contains the Prime Evil and all those cranky lords of hell.

The expansion also comes with a new character: the Crusader. Described as a tank and heavily armoured, he or she has got his choice of weapons as well as battle magic that can buff allies or debuff enemies. Aside from the new class, Reaper of Souls brings with it Act V, gameplay enhancements, new enemies and quests, randomized maps, lots of new loot (as well as changes to looting), and a level cap raise to 70. Existing classes will discover new spells and abilities at their higher levels.

Players can also expect more multilevel Legendary items as well as Blacksmith and Jeweler crafting options. The Paragon progression system will provide further endgame options and add replay value. Finally, two new modes are being added: Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls does not yet have a release date, but more information is expected at BlizzCon in November. Watch below for the cinematic intro and gameplay trailer, both of which debuted alongside the announcement, and check out our brand new gallery below!
