CD Projekt RED, makers of The Witcher titles, today announced the availability of its own set of developer tools, REDkit, available now.

REDkit is based on the development tools that CDPR themselves used to create The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and gives would-be creators the ability to build non-linear stories/quests, build environments, characters, set dialogue camera placement, and much more, including terrain tools such as the SpeedTree foliage system.

Said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED:

"For CD Projekt RED, RPGs are all about telling amazing stories. We want to give players the power to tell the same kind of non-linear, branching stories that made The Witcher games so popular. Our fans have helped us for years to make our games the best they can be, and REDkit is part of embracing our community as a partner in game development."

The studio released a few screen shots of examples of what REDkit can do. Old school RPG Maker this is not:

Even better, there's a trailer! A trailer for a devkit? Yes, a trailer for a devkit:

REDkit is available now for free via the kit's official website, so check it out and let us know if you build anything cool with it!
