Nintendo Direct News: New Zelda, Bravely Default, Earthbound, & More
Lots of RPG goodness from this morning! 04.17.13 - 1:54 PM Chances are if you're reading our site, you like RPGs. And chances are if you like RPGs, this morning's (Western release-focused) Nintendo Direct will have something for you, if you have a Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps one of the biggest surprises was a new The Legend of Zelda title - and not just a new title, but one set in A Link To the Past's world. Using the 3DS' capabilities, Link can blend in with the walls as if he were a drawing. You can catch a glimpse of the game in the Nintendo Direct feed, or download a 3D video from the eShop. The as-yet-untitled Zelda game is due for a release in the holiday season. You can view the first screens here (just note our title is a placeholder until there is an official one). And if that's not enough Zelda for you, the Capcom-developed The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, originally GameBoy Color titles that intertwine with each other, are headed to the 3DS virtual console on May 30th. Mario & Luigi Dream Team will also see release this summer. The brothers have to rescue Princess Peach yet again, this time by having Mario travel between the real world and Luigi's dreams. The title will be released on August 11th at retail and on the 3DS eShop. While it's been rumoured more heavily recently, the presentation announced that Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is finally coming out West in 2014. Nintendo has 'partnered with' Square Enix to publish the highly-anticipated 3DS RPG, which released in Japan last year to rather positive reception. Shin Megami Tensei IV was already announced for a Western release, but today's presentation also revealed that first-print editions will come as quite the deluxe package. These Limited Edition Box Sets will come with a 176-page Strategy & Design book that offers both basic tips and lots of artwork, including some that never made it into the game, and a music collection CD that contains the tracks from all across the Shin Megami Tensei series, all packaged into a slipcase featuring art by Masayuki Doi. SMT IV goes on sale on July 16th. A new Professor Layton title, the third game in his second trilogy, is set for a 2014 release. Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, also a 3DS title, features over 500 new puzzles. Finally, to many fans' surprise and after years of waiting, the SNES cult classic Earthbound is finally releasing on the Wii U Virtual Console in North America and Europe by the end of this year.
