And it's already past the funding goal after mere hours.

A short while ago, InXile Entertainment had hinted at their intent to create a new Torment game as somewhat of a follow-up to the PC classic Planescape: Torment. This week, Torment: Tides of Numenera was made official, and its KickStarter campaign also went live this morning... what's more, it's already reached its $900,00 funding goal and, well, it's a little early to have any stretch goals announced yet.

Torment: Tides of Numenera is not a direct sequel to Planescape as it won't carry over characters or storylines. Rather, it is based on Monte Cook's tabletop RPG Numenera's Ninth World, and will use a set of rules based on it. InXile promises 'engaging' gameplay, but combat, like other Torment games, will be avoidable. There will be lots of focus on story and character, and having the player develop that character in terms of both skills and story choices.

You can find lots of info on the studio's plans for the game, how the tides work, and some artwork on the Kickstarter page. Torment: Tides of Numenera will release in December of next year.
