Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker For Wii U + First Screens
Also, some hints about the next new entry in the Zelda series. 01.24.13 - 12:06 AM During this morning's Nintendo Direct event, we learned a bit about two new Zelda titles coming for Wii U. The next new Legend of Zelda title wasn't revealed, though series producer Eiji Aonuma discussed the development team's plans for the game, based around the idea of rethinking what everyone has come to accept as conventional aspects of the series. Specifically, the team wants to get away from the linear progression that Zelda titles typically adhere to - something they had hoped to implement with 2011's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but weren't able to. The second convention they want to break is the notion that a Zelda game is a solo affair, that one enjoys only by themselves. With the exception of the Four Swords titles, the only multiplayer aspect we've seen in Zelda was using GameCube/Game Boy Advance connectivity in The Wind Waker. Which, interestingly enough, brings us to the next part of this story... Since the next Zelda title is not ready to be shown yet, Nintendo decided to give us something to play "in the meantime" with an HD update to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. As you can see, the graphics retain the original's cartoon look, though updated to take advantage of the more powerful Wii U. While vague on the specifics, they also intend to "tune up" the game experience, and allow the title to be played on either your TV or the Wii U GamePad alone. Miiverse compatibility will also be in tow in some fashion. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Wii U (tentative title, of course) will be released by this fall.
