Tera Joins The Ranks Of Free-to-Play MMORPGs
Lots of AAA titles now available for free. 01.09.13 - 10:41 AM Joining Star Wars: The Old Republic and The Secret World, one more AAA MMORPG is turning subscription-free: Tera. Starting in February, the newly-titled Tera: Rising will not cost anything to download, nor will it have a required subscription fee. All new players will enjoy a "standard" status, though they face no level cap or restriction of content and will have access to two character slots. Anyone with an existing account becomes a founder, which comes with eight character slots, four bank tabs, an exclusive mount, and other additional content. Additionally, En Masse will be re-activating accounts with free game time on January 16 in preparation for the change-over. For power players, though, Tera will offer not only a microtransaction store, but also an "elite" subscription option at $14.99 per month. These players will obtain various bonuses, including elite mounts, a daily stipend of items, access to 10 additional daily bonus quests, and a discount on microtransaction items. "With Tera: Rising, we created a fresh, action-oriented play style that is centered around allowing players to take control of their actions on the battlefield," said Chris Lee, CEO of En Masse Entertainment. "We feel the time has come to offer the same level of control in how they invest in the world of Tera, so we are offering a tiered approach that includes a compelling free option, to accessing the game."
