XSEED Games has announced the localization of PSP and 3DS title Unchained Blades, also known as UnchainBlades ReXX in Japan. Developed by FuRyu, the title was directed by Toshio Akashi of Lunar fame and written by Takashi Hino, who had previously worked on several Grandia titles.

"We at XSEED Games are delighted with the opportunity to bring a title like Unchained Blades to North American gamers," said XSEED Director of Publishing Ken Berry. "Unchained Blades represents a collaboration between some of Japan's most high-profile developers and artists, offering a unique blend of classic RPG gameplay paired with an eclectic mix of art styles."

The game features Fang, the dragon emperor, who is out for revenge on the goddess clunea after she removes all of his powers. Fang is joined by a number of mystical beings - each of which was designed by a different artist. Artists of the 13 main characters include Toshiyuki Kubooka (Lunar), Shinichiro Otsuka (Summon Night), and Kazushi Hagiwara (Bastard!!).

The game's systems involve dungeon crawling in a first-person perspective and using the game's "unchain" system to convince monsters to aid them. These creatures will then block attacks or support players wth offensive abilities. Each character can have four Unchained monsters, so customization won't be an issue.

XSEED's localization will include English voice-overs and will be available digitally for the PSP and on the 3DS sometime in 2012.
