RPGFan Soundtracks Spotlight: Fragile Dreams
It's anything but a fragile dream.

For me, Fragile Dreams was less of a game and more of an experience. It wasn't about the controls or (admittedly poor) gameplay mechanics; it was about connecting to the characters and music. As was the case with the oft-maligned Unlimited Saga, this game has a soundtrack that succeeds in spite of its shortcomings elsewhere. It is replete with quiet, emotional melodies that make protagonist Seto's loneliness and anguish almost palpable. In a bleak world where sadness is the norm, these tracks impart hope when all seems lost. Delicate piano and ponderous cello are used expertly to craft the game's melancholy atmosphere. The music has a humbling quality that appeals to my sense of empathy, and makes me appreciate the human connections I've forged. I appreciate games that can inspire these kinds of epiphanies, because the emotion it made me feel is a greater prize than any high score.

"You are never truly alone," the music seems to say, "so don't ever give up."
