Fire Emblem: Awakening Detailed
What's new in the first 3DS entry of Nintendo's strategy series? 02.11.12 - 5:05 PM Fire Emblem: Kakusei (Awakening) will be the long-running strategy RPG series' first appearance on the Nintendo 3DS platform. The title, due out in just over two months in Japan, is finally seeing some promotion. This week's Jump shared the first details we've gotten in a while. The 'Awakening' part of the title was explained in the magazine as thus - and in English! "Two sleeping dragons -- one a sacred ally of mankind, the other its sworn destroyer. Two heroes marked with symbols of the dragons. Their meeting heralds the dragons' awakening -- and the world's ending." One main character is Krom, prince of the Iris kingdom. Per Fire Emblem tradition, he is of the Lord class, wielding the 'sealed sword' (a reference to the first GBA installment, Fuuin no Tsurugi?), Falchion. However, you also get your own main character. You will create him or her, choosing their class, looks, and so on. The meeting between main characters is important to the plot. Two gameplay elements were revealed in Jump: free maps, and the Dual system. The former isn't new to the series; it allows you to freely move your units around the map to either shop or fight. The dual system, on the other hand, is new; when you place a unit beside an ally and enter a battle, you will fight together. The other unit will attack and you might gain new abilities. Fire Emblem: Awakening releases in Japan on April 19th.
