Dragon Quest X Has A Turtle God
And he guards your human village. Wait, what?
01.15.12 - 6:24 PM

In Dragon Quest X Online, the first game in Square Enix's long-running RPG series to go multiplayer, your character starts out as a human, with early events forcing him/her to choose to become one of the game's other five races. Turns out your protagonist was sent from the heavens with a specific mission.

A large turtle who guards Etone, the human village, is himself a god. He explains to the protagonist that Etone is a 'nursing ground' of sorts, and using bright light, shows your character a shrine that depicts how mankind falls, and contains statues of the other five tribes. Obviously, your character has special status in Etone. You're considered a 'gift' to them from the turtle god. Aba is his messenger, sharing the turtle god's words with the village.

Etone has other mysterious elements to it, including stones that suggest something about your humanity. The shrine (or maybe another temple) also may lead you to another world.

You'll find the latest screens of the turtle god and the rest of the village in our gallery linked below. Dragon Quest X Online for the Wii is due out in Japan sometime this year, with its Wii U version not yet dated.
