What's Next For Square Enix's Hajime Tabata?
Final Fantasy Type-0's international release, for starters.
11.30.11 - 7:46 PM

Square Enix's Hajime Tabata's last two projects were Final Fantasy Type-0 and The 3rd Birthday, both PSP titled which he directed. Interviews with Tabata surfaced in both this week's issue of Famitsu and the Final Fantasy Type-0 Ultimania guide that also hit shelves this week. (The guide had advertised the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Ultimanias that will arrive in January.)

Tabata said that currently he's considering the next game in the 'Type' series, and the framework for such a sequel is in the plans. Type-0's sales have been strong, but he'd like to see more sales - maybe that's why they made a second demo, which is now available. In the Ultimania interview, he says that the Type-0 staff is actually working on that game's overseas release. No release timeframe was given.

Tabata had expressed before that he wanted to make a sequel to The 3rd Birthday. He re-iterated his desire to do so but said Square Enix 'policy' would prefer something else. He wants to make Type-0's sequel a console title, and says that the direction of the series will be determined by fan reactions (and sales). Referring to the game as Type-1, he would like this to be a direct sequel with the same world and characters as Type-0.

We'll have more details on Final Fantasy Type-0's international release as they come.
