An RPGFan's Guide To Black Friday: 2011 Edition
Don't worry, you won't have to brave crowds for all of the sales. 11.24.11 - 3:10 AM We all like sales. Not all of us like crowds however. And while there are a few Black Friday guides out there, we figured a more condensed list might be helpful for the RPG fans. With some of the sales starting tomorrow (Thursday), you still have plenty of time to decide what to get and where to go - or so we hope. Below is a list of stores and titles with their sale prices. The regular price is in parentheses: GameStop Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS with Ocarina of Time - $199.99 (or $99.99 with a DSi XL tradein; or $119.99 with a DSi tradein; or $129.99 with a DS Lite tradein) (Note: $199.99 is the regular price and not a sale price, but the 3DS is a limited edition one and a high-demand one at that, and its actual release date is Black Friday.) EB Games/GameStop (CANADA) LotR: War in the North - $39.99 ($59.99) Best Buy Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS with Ocarina of Time) - $179.99 ($199.99) Kmart Dark Souls $39.99 - ($59.99) Walmart Heavy Rain $14.96 ($29.99) Xbox Live Phantasy Star 2 - 200 points Steam Steam is offering different sales each day from today until November 27th. As of this writing, titles like the Mass Effect series are 75% off so ME2's regular edition is $4.99. The first Risen game is $14.99, but be sure to back each day at about 10 AM Pacific for new deals. iOS As our resident Apple guru Mike puts it, chances are if you've ever wanted to play it, it's on sale. Here's what he found: General iOS goodness: Gameloft has two RPG/adventure games, and both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad versions of each are under a buck: Telltale Games has nearly all of their graphic adventure titles on sale (most are for iPad): (No, there's no iPhone/iPod touch-sized HECTOR Episode 1) HECTOR: Ep1 HD – We Negotiate with Terrorists - $2.99 (normally $6.99) Monkey Island Tales 1 HD - $2.99 (normally $6.99) Sam & Max Episode 1: The Penal Zone for iPad - $2.99 (normally $6.99) Amazon Current sales include: Bet on the retail giant (and other online outlets) having sales on Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday, lightning deals especially. Unlike brick and mortar stores they won't formally announce deals ahead of time, but from what we hear, you can expect Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Dark Souls to go on sale, among others. Keep your eyes peeled to Facebook or Twitter for our finds! All stores are the US chains, except EB Games/GameStop Canada (obviously). Flyers for other Canadian chains are harder to find this early, and Black Friday is still a foreign concept up here, but I'll add anything relevant and noteworthy. Since this list is limited to RPGs and games that fall under our coverage, there are plenty more deals on other games, hardware and accessories. (One of my favorites is $199.99 for a 250 GB Xbox 360 bundled with Fable III and Halo: Reach at Best Buy US.) Also keep in mind that some of these deals are available online as of sometime Thursday, or midnight Friday morning - and others are in-store only. Good luck - especially if you're going to an actual store!
