Final Fantasy XIII-2 Is Complete
Some (maybe) final thoughts from director Motomu Toriyama.

Final Fantasy XIII-2's Japanese release is just weeks away, so it should come as no surprise that the game's development is complete. Director Motomu Toriyama shared a few tidbits in this week's issue of Famitsu. With the completion of the title, the staff is now currently working on the overseas versions, as well as the planned download content. Different teams are working on each.

The main game takes about 30-40 hours to complete, according to Toriyama, but there's lots of extra content outside of the main story. The game is divided up into chapters, each of which should take about 2-3 hours to complete so that the game could be consumed in small bits. There is, however, replay value in that you can rewind time (which 'resets' areas) which lets you see what other kinda of things you can do. This way, you can the 'paradox endings.'

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has a 'new game +' type feature, too. When you complete the game and start over using your save file, you can return to the Historia Crux just before the final boss. You can also revisit other areas with your now-levelled up characters, and see some paradox endings that you can only get on your second (or later) playthrough.

Some of the DLC will be bosses, such as Omega (Amazon.com's pre-order bonus). These guys can only be fought in the arena, which isn't a part of the main game. After you defeat the boss, crystallize them and they can become a member of your party. The enemies in the game aren't all monsters, though.

Aside from the pr-eorder bonuses, Toriyama is working on DLC costumes for Serah and Noel, too. He would like to release a piece of content every 2 weeks or so through next spring, and hopes to release bigger DLC which would affect the Historia Crux. There are no prices set for any DLC yet, and they will not affect trophies and achievements. There will be a bonus for those with a FFXIII save file, but this still hasn't been specified.

Other random tidbits include: Load times having improved (you might have heard loading times complaints from a recent round of impressions from the Japanese press), and the ability of both your characters and Chocobos to jump. You can even improve the jumping later in the game. Other topics included ones already talked about in previous interviews.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 releases in Japan on December 15th, North America on January 31st, and Europe on February 3rd.
