Bethesda Celebrates Successful Launch For The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
$450 million earned from launch? Not too shabby.

Considering that it had that monolithic FPS series to contend with last week in sales, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim held its own pretty well. With 7 million launch units shipped for last Friday's release, estimates are that about half of those were sold in the first two days alone. In all, parent company ZeniMax Media expects the game's launch shipments to generate about $450 million in sales. Not bad.

And if you thought everyone was spending the long weekend camping in playing Modern Warfare 3, that's where you would be wrong. According to Steam's statistics, in the first 24 hours over 280,000 players were playing Skyrim at the same time, far more than any other game, and apparently a new record.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 for $59.99 US. If you look in the right places, that huge collector's edition ($149.99 US) should still be available, too. For more on the game, you can check out our links below.
