Let's start with the good news! On the 5th of October (Japan time), patch 1.19 for Final Fantasy XIV will be officially released. Most notably, this patch brings well-known summon Ifrit into the game. You can see the battle video below:

Now to the not so good, but not entirely unexpected, news. Today in a press conference in Tokyo, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada answered questions about the company's online games (Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy). One of the biggest discussions was about Final Fantasy XIV's (still) ongoing issues. Wada said that because of this, "the Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged." He went on to mention the fixes that have been implemented throughout the year. "We'll continue with our reform work, which basically amounts to fully redoing the game, and hope to revive the FFXIV that should have been released."

Not to be left out, Dragon Quest X Online was mentioned too. Wada confirmed that, in regards to the future of the series, "We're not making them all online. We'll continue with a variety of developments, offline included."
