Deep Silver announced last week that its horror RPG Dead Island shipped more than 1 million copies in North America during the first few days of its September 6th release. It's held the top chart position in a number of other countries including the UK and France on Steam as well. Sale trends indicate that it will have sold 2 million units globally by the end of this week.

Geoff Mulligan, Chief Operating Officer at Deep Silver said, “We’re thrilled at the retail reception Dead Island has achieved in its first few days. The critical ‘first week’ of game sales has been an enormous sales success for Deep Silver. We’re working quickly with our distribution partner in North America, Square Enix, to restock shelves as quickly as we can.” Mike Fischer, CEO of Square Enix, went on to say, "With more than a million copies sold, I feel good knowing that the world is now more prepared than ever for what to do should a real zombie invasion ever threaten humanity." Wise words indeed.

Dead Island is currently available for the PS3, 360, and PC.
