Some Announcements From Sony's Pre-TGS Press Conference
Ys IV Remake, a Lord of Arcana followup, and... Final Fantasy X?!
09.14.11 - 2:26 AM

After Nintendo's 3DS press conference yesterday, Sony held their own pre-TGS event today (tonight? tomorrow?) with its own share of interesting announcements, mainly for the Vita. (Though not all were shown at the presser, since some announcements came via Famitsu instead.) Before you ask, none of the names get anywhere near as original as Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

Square Enix did have a couple of announcements though. The first one was Lord of Apocalypse, a follow-up to this year's PSP title Lord of Arcana. It apparently shares the latter's 'world view,' and features character designs by Tsubasa Masao. Though it is also an action RPG, this one allows for up to four players in co-op mode, and once again you'll be able to create your own character. Lord of Apocalypse will be both a PSP title, and a Vita launch title.

The bigger surprise was Final Fantasy X for both the PS3 and Vita. The game's 10th anniversary is right around the corner after all. It was said to be an HD version, so it's not clear whether it's a full-on remake or just updated visuals. I'm thinking the latter. Other than that, there was no other information or release window given.

Falcom's promised Vita announcement, meanwhile, turned out to be an Ys IV remake. Although the game will apparently use Ys SEVEN's party system, it's not clear yet if this remake is based on Ys IV: Mask of the Sun, or Ys IV: Dawn of Ys.

The PS Vita will launch in Japan on December 17th, with a Western date yet to be given. As mentioned, the launch lineup will include Lord of Apocalypse and Disgaea 3 Return, plus an Ubisoft RPG called Dark Quest. Other than these and the above titles, fans can also expect to see a Shin Megami Tensei title, a Tales of Innocence remake, a strategy RPG from Alpha Unit, a few RPGs from Marvelous, and something from Level-5 in the future.
