The latest in Hothead Games' DeathSpank series, The Baconing, is slated to hit various platforms this year, but it looks like PlayStation owners will get the first taste. It was announced last week that as part of the PSN PLAY promotion, The Baconing will release on the PlayStation Network on August 30th. If you pre-order before August 25th, you'll also get a (static) The Baconing-themed PS3 theme, and an extra sidekick character to choose from - Roesha: One Bad Mutha. (I don't make this stuff up!) PS Plus users also get 20% off their purchase of The Baconing or any other PLAY titles.

Hothead's Mike Inglehart also went onto the PlayStation Blog to talk about two of his favourite characters whom we'll see in The Baconing. The Leprechaun Mob Boss leads the McMafia who live in Rainbow's End which he describes as a leprechaun Las Vegas. You can even play the slots (and cheat), and you'll be able to make the McMafia really happy if you help them chase out the anti-gambling activists.

The other is Z.I.M.O.N., who would be considered a supercomputer... if he wasn't built in the late 1970s. When you encounter him, he might remind you of 'retro portable gaming.' Z.I.M.O.N. takes care of the climate and atmosphere of the Forbidden Zone.
