Larian Studios Announces Dragon Commander
Can you guess the developer's favourite mythical creature?

Larian Studios is the Belgium-based developer behind the Divinity series, whose most recent installment was Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga for both the PC and Xbox 360. (Atlus USA was nice enough to bring The Dragon Knight Saga to North American Xbox 360s back in April.) Yesterday Larian announced that it has a new project in the works: Dragon Commander.

In development for both PC and consoles, Dragon Commander is another installment in the Divinity universe which involves dragon combat in a turn-based strategy system. The game follows the first group of Dragon Knights who, alongside engineers and wizards, lead armies into a large-scale war in an attempt to overthrow the Empire.

The team has dreamt about this kind of project for so long, says director Swen Vincke, because Dragon Commander combines many of their favourite genres and themes, most especially the dragon combat aspect. Larian plans to reveal more details at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany (August 17-19), and you can watch the first footage here, and check out the first screen and artwork below. Dragon Commander will release sometime in 2012.
