Is Persona 2: Innocent Sin Being Not So Innocently Hinted At?
If you're confused about Atlus' newsletter from earlier, this is why.
05.19.11 - 11:20 PM

Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PlayStation Portable came out in Japan four weeks ago today, leaving Western fans wondering if they'll ever see the first half of the Persona 2 duology. But it's far too early to lose hope: Atlus USA sent out one of their usual Atlus Faithful e-mail newsletters this afternoon - though this one was awfully peculiar. It's dated June 23rd, 1999 with graphics you'd expect to see on a GeoCities page (!), logos for the game stores that got bought up by GameStop (like Software Etc. and Babbages) and filled with talk about the PSX, Nintendo 64... and Y2K.

So?

Despite the newsletter's claim that 'no new games are releasing today in Japan,' there was one of note that came out the next day. Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PlayStation reached Japanese shelves on June 24th, 1999. Unlike Eternal Punishment though, Innocent Sin never made it to the West. Atlus USA seems to be a fan of pre-announcement hints, and this looks like a telling one - but an actual announcement remains to be seen. As usual, stay tuned to RPGFan for more details.

(Side note: I liked the part of the newsletter about 'getting rid of post-apocalyptic games.' There might be a Shin Megami Tensei game or two - or ten - with that sort of theme...)
