You might have heard a while ago that JRPG developer Imageepoch had a collaboration in the works with SEGA, one which was revealed by this week's Famitsu: 7th Dragon 2020. The PlayStation Portable dungeon crawler is a sequel to 7th Dragon for the Nintendo DS. With the game being developed by Imageepoch, many staff members from the original make a return, including producer Reiko Kodama, director Kazuya Niino, and composer Yuzo Koshiro. Shirou Miwa will serve as the character designer.

Unsurprisingly, 7th Dragon 2020 takes place in.. you guessed it, 2020. Seven dragons have come down from space, attacking Tokyo and making it inhabitable by covering it in flowers. Yes, flowers. As the player, you'll form part of an anti-dragon task force called Murakumo to try and take out these beasts. When creating your character, you can choose from five jobs: destroyer, hacker, samurai, trickster and psychic. You'll customize the character's looks and even the voice for him or her, but your skills and abilities depend on your job, of course.

Your base of operations will be Tocho, a well-known government building in Tokyo. Tocho is where you hide out from the dragons, shop, strengthen your weapons with items found, and prepare for battle. Regular battles will be random, but you'll be indicated as to where the dragons are. As you might have guessed, battles are in first-person.

Finally, the first two characters were introduced: Natsume Hikasa, who runs Murakumo and helps anyone who actually has the ability to fight these dragons. Her assistant is Ayafumi Kirino. He is also a scientist who has been researching these dragons from outer space.

Famitsu has a first look at the game here. Already at 70% complete, 7th Dragon 2020 for the PlayStation Portable is set for a fall release in Japan.
