April Fools 2011: A Conversation Between the CEOs of Square Enix and Electronic Arts
Documents leaked detailing communications between Square Enix, EA. 04.01.11 - 9:57 AM Private emails between CEO of Square Enix, Yoichi Wada, and CEO of Electronic Arts, John Riccitiello, were leaked yesterday. Exchanges between the two executives seem to detail a good-natured competition between the two gaming industry powerhouses wherein both seem to have agreed to see who can "troll the gaming community and [their] fanbase the hardest." Distinct plans seem to have been made, suggested through "sick brags." Among Riccitiello's achievements were the inclusion of malware in Spore, the acquisition of BioWare, and turning the Dragon Age series into a representation of everything that's wrong with DLC. Wada boasted a more thought out, long-term goal in which he sought to build up a loyal fanbase with truly spectacular games, and then, "...crushing their expectations with successively worse installments, leaving a deep-seated sense of remorse and resentment for their hollow, wasted pasts. Don't [expletive deleted] with me, I'm a misanthrope. I will destroy you." Following this email, the jubilant feud deteriorated into 27 emails in which Riccitiello repeated: "u mad bro," and a clearly angry Wada responded with "no u." Riccitiello eventually broke the monotony with an email threatening to, "...have relations with your mother. You can go [expletive deleted] yourself."
