Devil Survivor 2 Announced
If a 3D remake isn't your thing, maybe a whole new game is! 03.22.11 - 11:38 PM With Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, a Nintendo 3DS remake of the 2009 DS game, on the way in the next few months, this week's issue of Famitsu was pretty surprising. Devil Survivor 2 for the DS (that's right, not the 3DS) is in the works. This doesn't appear to be a sequel to Devil Survivor, rather, a new game with a somewhat similar premise but new characters. Devil Survivor 2 sees Tokyo and other major Japanese cities attacked by Septentrion, a group of unknown invaders. The first attack occurs on a Sunday, with a different Septentrion attacking each day, seven days in total. This time you have a total of 13 protagonists who, in true Shin Megami Tensei fashion, have the ability to summon demons. The three characters introduced are a male main character who is a junior (third year) in school and gets caught up in the invasion on the way home from a mock exam and finds himself to be a demon summoner; Daichi, a lighthearted childhood friend; and Io, an honors student who is admired by her peers. All are in the same grade and from the same school. (Note: Andriasang actually lists Daichi as the female and Io as the male, but the scan below suggests otherwise.) Gameplay is said to combine strategy with command elements, so it sounds much like Devil Survivor so far. Atlus promises that gameplay in all areas wil be improved though, and players will get new demons to fuse. There was also mention of the 'Enishi system' which are actually related to your friendship bonds with your allies, which enables them to unlock new skills. Suzuhito Yasuda makes a return as character designer, with Mohiro Kitou designing the Septentrions. This time Kenji Ito is working on the sound. Devil Survivor 2 is 95% complete and set to release in Japan sometime this summer. Check out the game's announcement scan below. |
