The Last Story: Tidbits and Trailers
Dungeons, equipment and more!

As you've noticed, there's been a lot to say about Mistwalker's Wii RPG, The Last Story. Director Hironobu Sakaguchi has been tweeting a lot about the game - in English, even - about the title. He mentioned that there will be sidequests of various types, some of which involve dungeons. You can take on these quests through events or NPCs, but are not necessary to advance in the main game.

There won't be any mounts for transportation, since Sakaguchi says using the map to move around The Last Story's world will be easy and sufficient enough. The dungeons also appear to be connected, or at least the ones in Ruli City and Ruli Castle are. Some pathways, like in the city, may be well-hidden.

When revisiting dungeons, you can choose which allies to take. Dialogue will be minimal upon revisits, and some treasure chests won't appear until after your first visit to the dungeon. The balance will be different for when you return (likely so that you don't return many levels later and just kill things in one hit). You can usually collect both items and money in the dungeons, and in revisits, you can also leave the dungeon anytime you choose.

He also made brief mention of the original soundtrack, which appears to be going on sale on February 23rd for 3000 yen ($36.19 US). The 3 discs will contain some 160 minutes of music.

Now for the videos. Here is the shortest TV commercial ever:

And here is the fourth and latest PV, which like the others, shows off quite a lot about the game. It starts off with Elza discovering his Gathering ability but then gets into a lot more areas, like story scenes, shopping and battles. Looks like there's an arena where you can spar with your allies even. The theme song from singer Kanon can be heard at the end.

The Last Story is due out on Japan on January 27th. For more on the game, check out our preview and gallery below.
