Ever17's Director Has a New Game in the Works
We have some sci-fi mixed with suspense and adventure! 12.29.10 - 7:57 PM Takumi Nakazawa is best known for being the director of Ever 17, a beloved digital novel for the PC that many at RPGFan adore. Now he's working with Japanese developer Regista and publisher Yeti on a new project that is sure to pique your interest. Entitled Root Double: Before Crime * After Days, the game is set in the year 2030 and will be centered around a research facility that occupies over 180,000 residents. It's no ordinary research facility: it's controlled like a military state. The rules are so strict that people can't even communicate with anyone outside the facility unless the government permits them to do so. There is an upside to living in isolation and giving up some of their rights: the government provide not only tax exemptions, but also the best medical technology and treatment around. There's a lot to entice researchers to come work there: the facility is so top notch and specialized that researchers compare it to heaven. Root Double: Before Crime * After Days opens with a critical accident occurring at the "LABO," the 6th Laboratory of Atomic and Biological Organization. This facility contains a large atomic reactor, and it is suspected that this building is conducting top secret government research. The title allows you to play through two different routes which feature several different characters. In route A, you play as Watase Kasasagi, a member of the rescue party for the incident at the LABO. What makes Watase even more interesting is that he is an amnesiac when the game starts. If you choose his route, the story starts with Watase waking up inside the LABO in complete panic; he's trapped - all his escape routes have been completely blocked off. Kasasagi's not alone on route A; Kazami Tachibana is facing her first rescue mission and as a rookie she'll have to go on instinct alone to get her through it. These characters will also have two more alongside them: Jun, another rescue team member, who is highly skilled with machines and Ena, an aspiring teacher stuck at LABO on the day of the incident. As for route B, you'll get a completely different cast and their perspective. With this route, your main character is a high school student named Natsuhiko. Natsuhiko keeps to himself and doesn't even have his mother to lean on. She's a researcher who is too absorbed in her work to dote on him. When the accident occurs, he is at LABO. Route B's cast of characters contain his childhood friend Mashiro, who has a crush on Natsuhiko, and Louise, the new girl in town, who is also highly gifted. Root Double: Before Crime * After Days is set to release some time next year. There has not yet been a platform announced for the game.
