What kind of booty really awaits in the Netherworld anyway?

Back when Nippon Ichi Software officially announced Disgaea 4 at Tokyo Game Show, an online mode was vaguely mentioned but never really detailed. Now it sounds like you'll be able to ambush other players via pirate ship. Yes, a pirate ship, one that you assemble yourself and which characters are onboard, are of your choosing. Only players of the same rank can attack each other, so don't panic too much if you get attacked. How the battle pans out though, and what happens after as far as party control, is unclear. Players can even 'call' each other for help to through in-game cellphones.
As well, if you have a Disgaea 3 clear file, hold onto it - it turns out that you can load this save into Disgaea 4. Just what it unlocks, again was unclear, but bonuses never hurt, right?
Lastly, the 'magichange' system will be a little different this time around. In addition to turning monsters into weapons, you can also combine monster... and characters. There are three kinds of combinations: monster + human (Magichange weapon); monster + monster (gigantic monster); and gigantic monster + human (gigantic Magichange weapon). Disgaea 4 will be out in February in Japan and sometime next summer in North America.
