You may remember in 2008, when we posted that Red Eagle Games was working on some Wheel of Time games based on the books of the same name by Robert Jordan. Today, the company announced that they would be working with Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment on a Wheel of Time title.

"The development team at Obsidian Entertainment has demonstrated time and again that they can successfully blend storytelling with technology to craft a superior RPG experience," said Rick Selvage, Chief Executive Officer of Red Eagle Games. "Obsidian Entertainment is the ideal development partner to help Red Eagle Games take Jordan's beloved characters from the printed page to exciting new forms of interactive media."

Red Eagle Games has already partnered with Electronic Arts to be the distribution partner for the titles released for the Wheel of Time. It's not the first time that Obsidian has crafted a work based on a pre-existing franchise: their hit Neverwinter Nights 2 was based on Wizards of the Coasts' Forgotten Realms world and their first title Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was obviously based on George Lucas's Star Wars franchise.

"The Wheel of Time is one of the greatest and well-received fantasy series of all time," said Chris Avellone, Chief Creative Officer of Obsidian Entertainment. "Games set in Robert Jordan's universe have the chance to deliver on the epic storylines and the complex characters that the series is known for - and this is one of Obsidian's strengths. It's a natural fit."
