Mega Man Legends 3 Finally Announced
And it only took ten years for Capcom to pull the Trigger.

I've been with RPGFan since June 1999. When Eric found me and my horrible RPG fansite hosted at Xoom (remember them?), something compelled him to bring me on board. Ever since that day, I've made arguments - compelling ones at that - stating that we really needed coverage on Mega Man Legends. While all of us here like to joke about covering games dear to our heart - Metroid, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus - Mega Man Legends is a bonafide action RPG, and the fact that we still have yet to bring some retro coverage to the games is something I think finally needs rectifying.

Now that I've set some foundation for what this all means to me, today's announcement of Mega Man Legends 3 (Rockman DASH 3 in Japan) for the Nintendo 3DS is astounding. And not simply because of the rabid fanbase that's been dying for this announcement for so long, but because, frankly, Mega Man Legends 1 & 2 just didn't sell as well as Capcom had hoped. The fact that the Legends series is the favorite of Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune must have made it hard not to revisit the world for so long.

While no game details came out of today's news, we did get the elated video from Keiji Inafune below, and a logo for the game. In addition, some intriguing info came out of this Capcom-Unity blog post:

"Mega Man Legends 3 Project has just been announced at the Nintendo Conference 2010 in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS! While we can’t get into too many details, we can say that fans will have an opportunity to be part of the development process like never before as they interact directly with the team! How exactly? You'll have to stay tuned for more news at New York Comic Con!"

The plot thickens! Masakazu Eguchi, the game's director, added:

"As you can see, Inafune is very enthusiastic about this project. And that new development style that he said he would go into more detail about later, I’m sure you won't be disappointed by that. We think not only fans of the series, but anyone interested in Mega Man Legends will be like, “What? ...OMG!!!”

When I and the rest of the staff first heard that were that we were doing this, we were shaking in our boots. All of us were asking our bosses, “Are you guys serious?”

But the proposition was interesting to say the least. So, now here we are making intense preparations and trying to stay on schedule.

...Having said that, there are so many details about the project that I am dying to tell all of you... but you'll have to wait and let your imaginations run wild for just a little longer, until the Comic Con in New York next month!

Until then, I'll use this blog to introduce to members of my team, and tell you a little about what's going on here in the Dev Lab. I'll do my best to update it at least once a week, so check back often!"

So, keep checking that blog, and check back here soon, as the New York Comic Con kicks off October 8th. I will now go and share my elation with the rest of the world.
