2nd Opinion: Nier Review
Even *more* positive? We're feeling self-vindicated right about now...

Most of the "games journalism" world, laughable as we all are collectively, will tend to peg a game a failure in one accord. Rarely does someone speak out against it.

Nier, Cavia's most recent (and possibly last) title, was one of those games that got universally smacked around. At least in English-speaking territories.

Last month, I (Patrick) wrote a review that threw all the crap aside and got to what I thought made the game good. Much as I loved patting myself on the back, I couldn't help but think that I was alone.

So when another editor comes in and thinks the game is not only good, but actually great (enough to give out our prestigious "Editor's Choice Award") ... well, that feels extremely good.

Finally, imagine my surprise when said co-editor is Kyle E. Miller, someone that struck me as the kind of person who would dismiss Nier. Don't ask me why, that's just what I expected from him.

What this shows, to me and to many others on staff, is that perhaps this "niche" title has a broader appeal than expected. It just got shafted in the realm of marketing and PR, hence its general lack of success.

I recommend you just skip whatever it was I wrote and read Kyle's review. And then buy the game.

(Also, import the soundtrack this instant! It's one of the highest-rated and highest-reviewed albums across all of Play-Asia!)
