Runic Games Announces Torchlight 2
If they keep this up, we'll have Torchlight 37 before we have Diablo 3.

Torchlight and I have a very love/hate relationship. On the one hand, it was one of the best action RPGs of 2009 and is one of the best Diablo clones to date. On the other, it mercilessly devoured my soul during my finals reading period, leaving me with less than stellar grades and a serious case of sleep deprivation.

Just when I thought I'd had enough of Torchlight's poisonous nectar, Runic Games went and announced Torchlight 2 with just about everything one could want from a Torchlight sequel. Biggest on the list of new additions is the inclusion of online co-op, complete with LAN support and matchmaking.

In addition to online play, Torchlight 2 will bring with it new classes, monsters, dungeons, increased character customization, and real, honest-to-goodness overworld. The Torchlight MMO is still in development, but the additions being made to Torchlight 2 will make for strong competition in the action RPG sphere next year.

Torchlight 2 is scheduled for release as a digital download in spring 2011. More information will be revealed at Gamescom later this month, and at PAX Prime this September, so stay tuned to RPGFan for more information.
