A recent fan interview with Josh Sawyer, project manager on Fallout: New Vegas, has revealed that the PC version of the upcoming pseudo-sequel to Fallout 3 will make use of Valve's Steamworks platform. Fallout: New Vegas will utilize many of the features included in the Steamworks platform, including Steam achievements, cloud-based storage of user preferences and saves, and more. People who purchase Fallout: New Vegas at retail will be required to activate the game online through Steam, but once the game has been activated will be able to install the game on any computer with no restrictions on the number of installs and no need to have the DVD in the drive during gameplay. Most importantly for modders, Steamworks will have no effect on the creation or distribution of mods.

Senior producer Jason Bergman explains, "We made the decision to use Steam after looking at all the various options out there and decided that it provided the best, least intrusive experience for PC gamers."

For those of you particularly inclined toward pre-ordering games, Bethesda has announced a variety of Fallout: New Vegas pre-order bonuses. Four sets of in-game weapons and armor are available from five different retailers:

-The Classic Pack, available from GameStop, includes an Armored Vault 13 Suit, a Vault 13 Canteen, a Weathered 10mm Pistol, and 5 Stimpaks.
-A pre-order from Amazon.com will net you the Tribal Pack, including Tribal Raiding Armor, a Broad Machete, 5 doses of Bleak Venom, and 10 Throwing Spears.
