The Last Story To Be Told Later Than Expected
But new story and gameplay details soften the blow.

A recent column on developer Mistwalker's blog has indicated that the upcoming Wii RPG The Last Story is entering "extended development". Director Hironobu Sakaguchi wrote:

"The development of The Last Story is at its climax. It's taking longer than I thought. After seeking the new style, I could see many directions of how to strengthen the balance adjustment and system in detail; moreover I would like to try them at some degree. However, just a little bit longer. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I step on the gas quietly and calmly."

Some additional details about the game's main characters also surfaced recently. The male protagonist, named Elza, is a lowly mercenary who dreams of becoming a respected knight. Little is known about the heroine, Kanan, but her regal attire suggests a noble heritage.

Elza possesses a mysterious power known only as "Gathering". After obtaining the power early on in the game, Elza can radiate blue light from his arm to draw the attention of monsters in battle. The primary use for this ability is to enable his allies to cast spells without interruption.

No official release date has been announced for The Last Story in any territory, but RPGFan will continue to provide information as soon as it becomes available.
