Mega-props to my colleague Damian Thomas. He's the one who provided today's feature soundtrack review, for Senjou no Valkyria 2 (that's Valkyria Chronicles 2 to all the English-speakers out there). It's two discs, and it's got music from Hitoshi Sakimoto. I have every reason to believe it is excellent, and easily the best of the five soundtracks reviewed today.
The other four reviews are from moi.
Endless Frontier EXCEED is the sequel to Super Robot Taisen OG Saga x Endless Frontier for the DS. This two disc promotional soundtrack contains near-full OSTs for both of the above-mentioned games. Music from Takuya Hanaoka and the rest of Salamander Factory. Good stuff.
.hack//Link is, apparently, the last game in the series. Finally. This PSP title also sports a two disc soundtrack, from Chikayo Fukuda (who worked on the rest of the series). Some vocal tracks from the anime titles in this series, written by Yuki Kajiura, also make an appearance on the soundtrack.
Death Connection is another "Otomate Label" game from Idea Factory. We're interested in it because the soundtrack is by Yuki Sugiura of Heinrich von Ofterdingen, whom we interviewed earlier this year. It's his latest soundtrack, and it demonstrates that he and his group have the ability to diversify. That makes me happy.
Finally, bringing things full circle, we have another review of music from Hitoshi Sakimoto and the Basiscape crew. It's a promotional soundtrack for a game called Elminage. Oldschool dungeon-crawling RPGs from Japan don't have great chances of being localized, and I think this one is staying in Japan. The soundtrack was a promo-only item, and even though Basiscape now has their own record label for distribution, I doubt this one will ever have a retail release. Basiscape Records is free to make me eat my words if they so wish it.
