First and foremost, cheers to my friend and longtime RPGFan staffer Ashton Liu for coming out of the woodwork with a Genso Suikoden Tierkreis OST review. This is a very rare three disc set from Konami, and we're happy to be able to provide some impressions and audio samples to the readers. There are still two other soundtracks for this title (the "Extra" soundtrack and the opening/ending single); we will try to get to them. If any readers would like to help with these, let us know.
While on the subject of hard-to-find Konami soundtracks, let's talk about their latest DS venture. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (known as Akumajou Dracula: The Stolen Seal in Japan) has quite the obscure soundtrack. It wasn't made available in online shops outside of Konami's own "Konami Style" website; and that one doesn't take international orders. Well, somehow we got this two disc soundtrack covered, and we also did a review of the six-track promo album released with the American version. Good stuff all around.
One of our newest staffers, Bob Richardson, tackled a three disc monstrosity that I'm not sure he was entirely ready for: Muramasa: The Demon Blade OST from Basiscape. It's a big soundtrack, and it's not an easily listening experience outside the context of the game. That's Bob's opinion of the soundtrack, anyway. You'll find this one filed under "O" for Oboromuramasa, which is the game's Japanese title.
Finally, I did a review for the two-disc Hexyz Force OST. Why? Well I noticed Atlus USA has this game in their queue of upcoming games, so I had to check out the music. It's Shigeki Hayashi, same guy who does all the other music for Sting titles. I loved this soundtrack. Check out the audio samples if nothing else.
That's the update for today. Next time? I have no idea. If I can stomach it, I'll plow my way through the *six disc* (yeah, that's right, SIX) End of Eternity (Resonance of Fate) OST. Else, just expect a steady stream of old and new musical goodness.
