What's the deal with final dungeons? And what about that lovely game mechanic known as the "point of no return" ... yeah? You feel me, right? We have a bone to pick with a lot of RPGs and their final dungeons. Sometimes they're too long and difficult; at other times, they're far too short and underwhelming. And, ultimately, why can't a game be consistently interesting from start to finish? Is it safe to save the best part of your game for the end?

There are a lot of questions worth asking about the progression of "final dungeon" material in RPGs of the last two decades. Editor Kyle Miller considers many of these questions in today's feature editorial.
