Soundtracks Roasting On An Open Fire...
We put three semi-high-profile soundtracks to the flame and see which chestnuts are good, and which are rotten. 12.27.09 - 5:08 PM Am I carrying this particular metaphor too far? Whether I am or not, let's just get right to the good stuff. First of all, our boy Dennis Rubinshteyn has been really getting into Ys SEVEN. I'm still annoyed over the whole "ditch the roman numerals for no reason" thing, but he looked past that and actually played the PSP title. And then he listened to the full two disc soundtrack. His lengthy review of this soundtrack, the newest treat from Falcom, may well lead you to buy it. And fortunately, Cocoebiz's "VGM World" does have it in stock for a limited time. Next up, I put myself through what I thought would be a process of pain and suffering: a three disc Pokémon soundtrack. This is the full soundtrack for Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver for DS. However, it's not just that. The third disc is music from the original Game Boy versions (yes, these DS games are remakes of Gold and Silver, in case you didn't realize). Lucky for me, the listening process was anything but torturous. There's lots of good music here, and it's taken Nintendo quite some time to finally offer it to consumers. Finally, we have the soundtrack review for 3D Dot Game Heroes, that eccentric little title that From Software developed for PS3. Currently, Atlus USA has it set for a May 2010 release. The music fits the "art" quite well. We think you'll like it. Before the year is out, expect a Shin Megami Tensei blow-out, then expect some more themed updates in the starting weeks of 2010. Thanks for reading, and if you have a soundtrack review submission or an idea you'd like to pass along, send it to us!
