Sony Computer Entertainment has released a first batch of information on the sequel to the popular PlayStation 3-based RPG White Knight Chronicles.

The sequel will take place one year after the events of the prequel. Grazel, the young leader of Wizard (the antagonist organization of the first game) has managed to acquire a significant amount of power and built a new Empire. As a result, the Kingdom of Balandoul, the free city of Grid and Fohria, the country of magic are all in serious trouble. Important elements of the story that will unfold in the second game are the continued growth of protagonist Leonard and other key characters as well as the conclusion to the epic conflict between the evil Empire resurrected by Grazel and the nation of Asvien.

White Knight Chronicles 2 will also mark the appearance of the fifth and last knight, Tsukihime (Moon Princess). As already suggested by the name, Tsukihime is the only knight controlled by a female. Moreover, it is geared towards long-range combat, unlike the four other giants. At this point it is unknown whether Tsukihime will join Leonard's White Knight and the Dragon Knight or fight alongside the bad guys. It is said that a gathering of all five knights will lead to an event known as "Final Awakening."

However, it is not only the scope of White Knight Chronicles 2's story that has grown. This time, their adventures will lead Leonard and Co. to places outside the realm of Balandoul, e.g. the aforementioned magic nation of Fohria and the Lost Forest. With these new maps come new enemies, new receipts and new equipment. While the developers at Level-5 are apparently sticking to the first game's battle system, existing skills are being tweaked and complemented by more refined versions.

White Knight Chronicles 2 has yet to receive an official release date.
