Marvelous Entertainment today announced that it is working in cooperation with Type-Moon on Fate/EXTRA, a dungeon RPG adaption of Type-Moon's popular Fate series. The game is produced by Kazuya Niinou (Etrian Odyssey, 7th Dragon, Last Ranker). For his newest project, the prolific Niinou is joining forces with Type-Moon's Kinoko Nasu (scenario) and Takashi Takeuchi (character direction) as well as director Shuuetsu Kadowaki (Luminous Arc 2, Blue Dragon).

Players will be available to choose between a male and a female protagonist at the game's beginning. Needless to say that this choice will have an influence on the story's progression. The game tells the story of an average high school student who takes part in the Holy Grail War as a master. A master commands a servant who fights battles for his or her master. Exactly why the spirit of a master has awakened within the protagonist is still unknown.

Development of Fate/EXTRA is currently 60% complete. Since its debut five years ago, the Fate series has seen the release of several adventure titles, fighting games, a TV anime series as well as a manga. English-speaking gamers should note Capcom's release of Fate/UNLIMITED CODES, a fighting game, as a downloadable PSP title in Western regions.

Fate/EXTRA for PlayStation Portable will be available in Japan in March 2010.
